The Ford F-250 can tow up to 18,600 pounds when properly configured and can haul up to 4,220 pounds too boot. That's good for your multi-horse trailers, large boats, and the largest of RVs. By comparison, the Chevy Silverado 2500HD tows 18,100 pounds max and boasts a payload capacity of 3,534 pounds. These are solid numbers, but as you can see, not as much as those of its Ford rival.
Performance and Power: 2018 Ford F-250
Ford corners better while Chevy brakes better, but the name of the game is acceleration, the single most effective way of measuring power.
The Ford F-250 lags slightly behind in this category. Car and Driver estimates it'll come in half a second behind the Chevy Silverado in a race from 0 to 60 miles per hour. While Ford has focused on torque, horsepower, hauling, and towing, Chevy found a niche wherein it could thrive: driving and handling.
Then again, in terms of raw power, Ford still takes the cake. Its V-8 engine produces 385 horsepower and 925 lb-ft of torque. The Silverado 2500HD takes up the rear with 360 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. It looks like the Chevy's tightly tuned transmission is likely responsible for its quick acceleration.
Price: 2018 Ford F-250
With the Ford F-250 in the lead as it is, all might be forgiven if Chevy offered its truck for a lower price. Believe it or not, you actually pay more for the Silverado 2500HD. While the Ford F-250 starts at just $32,890, the Chevy Silverado 2500HD costs at least $34,200, over a thousand more. The Ford F-250 is more truck than the Chevy Silverado in just about every category that counts. Why pay more for less?
